Painted bronze sculpture realized by Rabarama (Paola Epifani) in 2006. Signed and numbered 2/8. Certificate of authenticity by Vecchiato Art Galleries. Excellent condition. A striking and highly expressive sculpture by Italian contemporary artist Rabarama (Paola Epifani), titled Soprav-vivere and executed in 2006. The work depicts a crouching leopard-like creature poised low to the ground, its elongated body stretched in a tense, predatory posture. The animal’s mouth is open, revealing its tongue, while the gaze is fixed forward, conveying a sense of alertness and instinctive survival. Cast in bronze and finished with a vivid hand-painted polychrome surface, the sculpture is decorated with leopard spots rendered in thick, textured paint across the body. The combination of sculptural realism and expressive surface treatment reflects Rabarama’s broader artistic exploration of the human and animal condition, particularly themes of adaptation, survival, and transformation—ideas referenced in the work’s title, which plays on the Italian phrase for “surviving” or “living through.” While Rabarama is widely recognised for her anthropomorphic figures covered with symbolic patterns, works such as Soprav-vivere demonstrate the artist’s parallel interest in animal imagery as metaphor for instinct and resilience. The dynamic composition, low profile, and elongated proportions give the sculpture a powerful sense of movement and tension. The sculpture is signed, dated, and numbered 2/8, indicating it is from a limited edition of eight casts, typical for the artist’s bronze works. Rabarama (Paola Epifani, b. 1969) is an internationally recognised Italian sculptor known for her distinctive figurative works in bronze and marble. Born in Rome into a family of artists, she studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Venice, where she developed the visual language that would become her signature. Her sculptures frequently depict human figures whose bodies are covered with symbolic patterns—letters, numbers, labyrinths, or animal-like markings—representing the complexities of identity, psychology, and evolution. Through these motifs, Rabarama explores themes of human consciousness, instinct, and the struggle for survival within contemporary society. Her works have been exhibited widely in Europe, Asia, and the United States, and are included in major public collections and outdoor installations worldwide. Monumental sculptures by the artist can be found in cities including Venice, Shanghai, Miami, and Beijing, and her works regularly appear in international art fairs and auctions.
