Jorge Santos photo realism is extraordinary. He sells worldwide and has been given solo exhibits at museums around the globe.
The world keeps moving. He simply floats.
Jorge Santos doesn't just paint — he constructs psychological puzzles you can't stop thinking about. In this breathtaking large-scale acrylic on canvas, a solitary figure curls impossibly atop an inner tube, face just above the waterline, eyes fixed on the viewer with an expression that's equal parts exhaustion and defiance. Above him: a flawlessly rendered open sky, indifferent and vast.
The technical execution alone is worth stopping for. The photorealistic water, the billowing clouds, the weight and texture of clothing — every detail is painted with a precision that borders on the uncanny. Yet the scene is unmistakably surreal, the kind of image that could only come from an artist who learned to paint not in a classroom, but through sheer obsession with the craft. Santos calls himself an "image-maker." This is why.
A rare opportunity to own a work by one of the most quietly compelling figurative painters working today.
We purchased this painting in 2005 at his solo exhibit in Seattle at the Andrea Schwartz Gallery. We have since leant it to the Nicolaysen Museum for a retrospective exhibit of his work in 2009.
I have personally seen his work listed at $30k+ at Bruce Lurie Gallery, but please double check with the gallery owner.
