The cast-iron frame is finished in true gold leaf- unmistakable in its warmth, depth, and subtle irregularity- and densely layered with hand-forged leaves whose sharply tapered tips reveal the artisans hammer work. The gilding retains its original luster, presenting the rich, luminous surface that only leafing can achieve.
Each of the four sockets is surrounded by three cut-crystal flowers, each with five faceted petals that are smooth to the touch and fully in tact. The blossoms are secured using the traditional Italian pin-mount method, leaving a small dark center visible- a hallmark of midcentury Florentine crystal craftsmanship. When illuminated, the crystals refract the light with a soft, jewel-like brilliance.
At 52" wide, the piece reads as a sculptural installation rather than a simple wall sconce.
