This rare and highly collectible floor lamp, model 1005b, was designed by the iconic gino sarfatti and produced by the esteemed italian lighting company arteluce in 1963. A standout example of mid-century modern lighting design, this piece combines technical innovation with refined minimalism, a hallmark of sarfatti’s influential work. The lamp features a sleek chrome-plated stem, rising elegantly from a cylindrical base finished in arteluce’s signature black crackle paint. This textured base treatment not only grounds the piece visually but also adds a tactile contrast to the polished chrome, enhancing its sculptural presence. The standout element is the wide diffuser shade, crafted from smoky brown-grey methacrylate, which emits a soft, atmospheric glow while subtly concealing the bulbs inside. The on and off switch is at the top of the lamp which is a functional feature. Model 1005b exemplifies sarfatti’s experimental approach to materials and form, reflecting his visionary contributions to 20th-century lighting design. Functional yet artful, this floor lamp is both a lighting solution and a design statement, ideal for collectors or enthusiasts of italian modernism. The lamp is in fully original condition, even the cable and the typical ticino plug are still present. As with many of sarfatti’s creations for arteluce, this lamp is as relevant today as it was in the 1960s, timeless in both aesthetic and function, and increasingly sought after on the vintage market. Literature; gino sarfatti 1938-1973, selected works, silvana editoriale, romanelli & severi. Page 443. This lamp is checked in our own atelier, cleaned and is also suitable for use in the usa as is. For us usage we could change the plug, or you can get a converter if needed for a floor or table lamp with transformer in it. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker.
