This stoneware sculptural vase by american sculptor eric roinestad is the v140 design, created in 2019 and handcrafted in the artist’s los angeles studio. Executed in pale ivory stoneware with subtle warm pink-toned mineral flecks, the work reflects roinestad’s distinctive approach to contemporary ceramic sculpture, combining architectural clarity with a strong sense of symmetry and form. The vase is composed of a cylindrical body rising from a conical pedestal base, establishing a stable architectural profile. Four vertical fin-like projections extend symmetrically around the body. Each fin is scalloped, creating a rhythmic geometric pattern that contrasts the smooth central planes with a sequence of rounded recesses. This interplay of concave and convex surfaces gives the piece a sculptural presence that shifts with light and viewpoint. The restrained palette emphasizes the material itself. The lightly speckled stoneware body presents a soft, chalky surface that highlights the precise modelling of the form while maintaining a tactile, hand-finished quality characteristic of roinestad’s studio practice. The underside bears the impressed er maker’s mark alongside “los angeles,” with the model title hand-etched into the clay, confirming its studio origin. The vase was acquired from the invisible collection in 2019 and has been displayed only. Condition is excellent, with no noted damage or restoration. The piece has been used solely for display purposes. Dimensions height: 53.3 cm (21 in) diameter: 25.4 cm (10 in) a clear example of roinestad’s sculptural ceramic language, the v140 vase demonstrates his interest in architectural geometry and the translation of modernist form into contemporary american studio ceramics.
