Oil and cold wax on Encaustiflex, a microfiber material made from recycled plastic soda bottles mounted on cradled panel. Gold leaf edges. Ready to hang.
A network of curved and rectilinear forms moves across a saturated red field, creating a composition that feels both architectural and fluid. The interlocking shapes guide the eye through the surface, where subtle shifts in tone and texture animate the monochromatic palette.
Built in layered passages of oil and cold wax, the surface carries a tactile, weathered quality that deepens the red field and gives the structure a sense of depth and weight. The curved elements soften the geometry, introducing rhythm and movement within the grid-like framework.
The painting continues Stephen Cimini’s exploration of architectonic abstraction, where geometry becomes a spatial language and color functions as a structural force. The composition wraps around the sides of the panel, whose edges are finished with gold leaf, allowing the work to exist as a complete object in space.
