The Ranelagh Club, located at Barn Elms in southwest London, was among the most prominent sporting institutions of its time. Founded in 1878 as a split from the Hurlingham Club, it quickly rose to international distinction, becoming the largest polo club in the world by 1894. By 1913, its membership numbered approximately 3,000, including prominent military figures and members of various royal families—cementing its place within the upper ranks of British sporting and social life.
