19th-century American oak gathering basket with a bentwood or steam-bent handle and a double-braided rim. Nail heads with oxidation rings and a pine bottom.
This primitive, utilitarian basket was traditionally used for gathering fruit, vegetables, flowers, or eggs. Beautifully handwoven, it features thick, heavy-gauge wood made from indigenous North American oak, with a stunning patina, oxidation, and wear consistent with its age and use.
