Beautiful antique silver-plated egg coddler by James Dixon & Sons of Sheffield, England. This elegant piece features a twin-handled cup raised on a decorative stand with ball feet and a domed lid with ornate repoussé floral and scroll decoration topped by a finial. Designed for gently cooking or serving eggs at the breakfast table, it is both a functional piece of traditional tableware and an attractive decorative serving item.
James Dixon & Sons was founded in Sheffield in 1806 and became one of the leading manufacturers of silver, Britannia metal, and electroplated wares during the 19th century. The firm gained international recognition for the quality of its tableware and household metalwork, exhibiting at major events including the Great Exhibition of 1851.
