The prints originate from the Swedish natural history series Svenska Fåglar Efter Naturen Och På Sten Ritade, published in Sweden in 1929 by A. Börtzells. This respected publication represents the refined Nordic tradition of early twentieth century wildlife illustration, where scientific observation is combined with a calm and decorative artistic style characteristic of Scandinavian design. Each plate presents a single goose species carefully rendered in profile, allowing the artist to highlight the distinctive plumage, body shape, and posture of the bird. The restrained compositions and soft natural colors create a harmonious visual effect while maintaining zoological accuracy. The birds are depicted standing in simple natural surroundings, a format typical of scientific ornithological publications intended to emphasize the anatomical features of the species. The set includes four notable goose species: the Brent Goose (Branta bernicla), the Barnacle Goose (Branta leucopsis), the Red-breasted Goose (Branta ruficollis), and the Pink-footed Goose (Anser brachyrhynchus). Each plate bears both the scientific Latin name and the Swedish vernacular name, reflecting the educational purpose of the series and its role in documenting the birdlife of northern Europe. Lithography was particularly suited to natural history illustration, allowing artists to reproduce delicate tonal shading and fine feather patterns with remarkable clarity. By the early twentieth century, Scandinavian publishers were well known for producing ornithological works of high visual and scientific quality, and the Svenska Fåglar series remains a fine example of this tradition. Today these prints are appreciated both by collectors of natural history art and by interior designers who value their calm palette and refined composition. Displayed together, the four lithographs create a balanced decorative grouping that works beautifully in libraries, studies, coastal homes, or Scandinavian-inspired interiors. The contrast between the bold black and white markings of the Barnacle Goose, the striking chest pattern of the Red-breasted Goose, and the softer tones of the other species adds visual variety while maintaining a cohesive set. These are original lithographs printed in color during the lithographic process in 1929 and are not later reproductions. Attached images in frame is for visual ideas only. We sell the prints unframed. Condition: Good condition for their age with light age toning and occasional minor spotting in the margins. The printed images remain clean and well preserved. Framing tips: These prints frame beautifully together with generous museum-style ivory mats and simple walnut, oak, or Scandinavian-style frames. They can be displayed either as a horizontal row of four or as a balanced two-by-two grid, creating a refined decorative wall arrangement.
