This interesting set consists of five antique textile panels originally intended for upholstering a small salon suite composed of a loveseat, two armchairs and two side chairs.
The fabric features elegant placed prints with floral urns, garlands, ribbons and scrolling motifs inspired by the decorative vocabulary of the 18th century Rococo and Louis XV style. Each composition is carefully centered, a typical characteristic of high-quality upholstery textiles designed specifically for chair backs, seats and decorative panels.
The textile has a finely ribbed texture and appears to be a cotton fabric, possibly blended with silk, typical of refined decorative fabrics produced in the late 19th and early 20th century. The delicate palette of soft cream, antique pink, blue and green creates a very elegant and harmonious decorative effect.
An especially interesting historical detail is the presence of small lead customs seals from the Kingdom of Italy attached to the fabric. These seals indicate that the textile passed through the customs office of Ventimiglia and can be dated between the late 19th century and the 1920s. This suggests that the fabric was likely imported into Italy, probably from France, an area renowned for its production of decorative textiles.
The floral compositions with urns, garlands and ribbons recall the decorative tradition of French textiles produced in Lyon and Mulhouse, often inspired by the famous 18th century designs associated with Philippe de Lasalle and the Rococo decorative repertoire.
Originally intended for upholstery restoration of a salon suite, these panels could also be used today for a variety of decorative purposes such as upholstery projects, interior decoration or as framed textile wall panels. Their elegant Rococo revival motifs make them particularly suitable for classic interiors as well as eclectic or maximalist decorative settings.
A rare and decorative set that beautifully illustrates the taste for Louis XV revival textiles and decorative fabrics used in refined interiors during the early 20th century.
