These finely detailed plates were produced using traditional copperplate engraving and were originally published in architectural treatises used by builders and architects to study the proportions of classical architecture. Each engraving illustrates columned arches and architectural elements including the architrave, frieze, cornice, and column capitals, accompanied by Italian explanatory text describing the mathematical proportions of the structures.
