Incredible, one of a kind, turned hardwood lamp with vintage pleated shade. Burled and beautiful, organic and modern, this piece is a showstopper.
Dating to the late 1970s, and a very good example of the California Modernist movement, the lamp exemplifies what we now often refer to as Organic Modernism.
Designers like Lou Hodges embraced humble wood species like oak, and created chunky, simple forms that were richly, yet simply detailed and seemed to work everywhere and are well-collected today. Solid, weighty wood pieces that gave a sense of place and permanence came out of the era. A craftsman's utilitarian approach to design is evident in this lamp. The maker turned a solid harwood log and let the natural knots and wear shine through. It embraces a "Wabi Sabi" perfection in imperfection and is beautiful has unique characteristics when viewed from different positions.
