The composition illustrates a highly decorative Louis XIV / Louis XV style mantel design, complete with sculptural caryatid figures supporting the mantle, classical statues set within niches, decorative urns, and an overmantel painting framed with cherubs and scrolling ornament. The engraving reflects the grand decorative schemes found in aristocratic French interiors during the late Baroque and early Rococo periods.

The lower inscription reads:

"Le Potre Inv. et fecit. Se vendent chez le Blond Rue de S. Denis a la Cloche d'Argent avec Privilege du Roy."

This indicates the design was created by Jean Le Pautre (1618–1682), one of the most influential French ornamental designers of the 17th century, whose engravings were widely published and used by architects, cabinetmakers, and decorators. The print was sold through the Paris print publisher Le Blond on Rue Saint-Denis under royal privilege.

The engraving is presented in a vintage gilt wood frame with matting, which complements the classical subject matter beautifully.
