This stunning original Art Deco fashion pochoir, titled "La Femme à l'Émeraude" (The Woman with the Emerald), was illustrated by the celebrated French artist Charles Martin (1884–1934). Originally published as Plate 23 in the 1923 issue No. 5 of the prestigious Gazette du Bon Ton, the image features an elegant woman wearing a striking tiger-motif fur mantle designed by Max-Leroy.
The pochoir technique is a refined hand-coloring process where vibrant gouache or watercolor is applied layer by layer through intricate stencils. This method, famously labor-intensive and rare, captures a richness of color and texture that mechanical prints cannot replicate. Martin’s signature "angular" style, heavily influenced by Cubism, perfectly encapsulates the high-glamour, independent spirit of the early 1920s Parisian elite.
This collector's piece is presented in a sophisticated custom double black and silver mat, which highlights the print’s cool tones and geometric Deco lines. Ready for professional framing, it is an exquisite example of original 20th-century fashion ephemera from one of the most influential style journals in history.
