A Very Attractive 19th Century Regency Period Simulated Rosewood And Parcel Gilt Breakfront Side Cabinet, Having One Drawer And One Upholstered Panel Door, Flanked By Elegant Reverse Tapered, Fluted Columns, Terminating On Attractive Original Turned And Lobed Feet.
Dependent on the availaibility of raw timber and the cabinet makers funds at the time of construction, it was relatively common for some types of Regency furniture to be constructed from a more readily available softwood such as beech, or pine, and then paint decorated to simulate the appearance of a much more expensive, harder to find, exotic type of wood such as rosewood, or coromandel.
This is an extremely attractive and elegant regency side cabinet which is incredibly functional and it offers a large amount of storage space packaged into something really rather beautiful indeed.
Overall the condition of this piece is very good. Just the usual old marks and historic scuffs & scrapes which one would expect to find on something of this age and these have of course blended in nicely to form a part of the overall character and patina of the piece. Also the pleated silk backgrounds are a little untidy in places, however they are still presentable enough and could easily be changed for anything which the purchaser desires to fit their own personal room schemes. There are no structural defects or visually distressing issues to raise at all.
As with all items which we offer for sale it has been attended to in our workshops by our highly skilled, trained antique furniture restorers, where it has been generally cleaned, tidied and naturally wax polished to ensure it is ready for immediate placement into the home upon purchase.
