This impressive early 19th-century engraving depicts the Cour Carrée of the Louvre Palace in Paris during the historic Exposition des Produits de l’Industrie Française, one of the earliest national industrial exhibitions in France and a precursor to the later international World’s Fairs. The print originates from the rare architectural publication Paris et ses Monuments, mesurés, dessinés et gravés, produced by the French architect and engraver Louis-Pierre Baltard and published in Paris in 1803.
Baltard’s engraving is remarkable for its clarity and technical refinement. Through delicate copperplate engraving and subtle shading, he captures both the grandeur of the Louvre architecture and the animated life of the exhibition crowd. The careful linear perspective and detailed architectural rendering demonstrate the engraver’s background as a trained architect. The print is not only an architectural view but also an important historical document. It records one of the earliest public exhibitions celebrating national industry and innovation, reflecting the ambitions of post-revolutionary France under the emerging Napoleonic regime. Today engravings from *Paris et ses Monuments* are highly sought after by collectors of architectural prints, historians of Paris, and collectors interested in early exhibitions and world fair history. The wide panoramic composition and lively historical scene make this engraving particularly decorative and visually engaging. This is an original print from the year of publication, not a later reproduction. The print is offered unframed, allowing the buyer full freedom to select framing appropriate to personal taste or interior design preferences. Any framed examples shown in photographs are for visual inspiration only.
