This refined 18th-century Louis XVI-style commode (dresser) is an excellent example of French cabinetmaking of the period, consistent with the work of Jean-François Leleu (1729-1807), one of the most celebrated masters of the period. The piece features a rigorous, rectilinear form, typical of the transitional period that characterized the reign of Louis XVI. The frame rests on four fluted truncated pyramid legs, embellished with bronze details. The top is made of fine marble, finished with a molded edge that follows the contours of the piece. The maker's mark is visible beneath the marble. This piece has an attribution mark,
