We all know about "German-made," don't we? Tops in design, tops in materials, tops in functioning. Oh, don't forget about craftsmanship, either!!
But, how do I know this is German, as it's not marked? Well, I'm relying on the good old Web, where I just happened to find another, identical, being offered in ... ta-da... GERMANY! And, it's being described as "German" and "Art Deco" and being offered at what seems like a very happy price for the owner. Mine's not in quite the pristine condition that its sister is, but...so it goes.
Getting back to the one I'm offering... It's made of solid brass and as you can easily and readily see from the photos, it's magnificently designed and crafted. You'll be driving the Mercedes of tasks lights!
The only "flaw" is that the shade has had some bumps along the way. They're difficult to photograph, I've done the best I can. There are two basic areas where the metal has been wrinkled. Back in the good old days I would have spent some time trying to lessen the wrinkles, but I don't want to disturb the white enamel on the inside of the shade, which is in pretty good condition, and could potentially be compromised by an attempt to flatten out the wrinkles, which has to be done from the interior.
If you're an architect and could use a magnificent lamp of this nature, or a guy who's got a workbench in the basement that needs a GREAT antique lamp to brighten things up, then you've arrived at the right place. And at less than half the price that its sister is being offered! And no import duties involved here, mine's already in the U.S.! Such a deal.
Obviously, this lamp has been rewired. There's a plug on the end of the amply long wire and as you can see, an on-off switch on the line. You can employ any size bulb/wattage your heart desires. You can see there are heat escapement holes in the top of the shade. It moves like a hot knife through butter...
Fully extended, it measures about 27 inches overall, and the shade about 5 5/8 in diameter.
The back plate is about 6 1/2 inches top to bottom.
