This is a gorgeous example of an … Read more A vintage 1978 4-piece "Soft Seating" furniture suite by William Andrus for Steelcase. This is a gorgeous example of an iconic space age Steelcase furniture set. The "Soft Seating" set was designed in the early 1970s and is a prime example of the space age design language of the time. This set features a white fiberglass body design with soft curving corners, a supple and soft brown leather upholstery, and a round, clear lucite base. This design set was made to be the star of a space, a true conversation starter in the 1970s, and especially now. This particular set was produced by Steelcase in 1978 as noted in the original tagging pictured. Even more fun, the full set includes an original 1973 Steelcase Office Graphic lookbook, showcasing their Tustin, California Western Division Headquarters. The set includes a sofa, armchair, side table, and coffee table. This set features brown design notes in the rich leather upholstery donning the chair and sofa, as well as in the brown smoked mirror glass inset into the side table and coffee table. This set is in good vintage condition overall, and has been recently professionally cleaned. Each of the items have some scuffs and scratches to their bodies, common with used vintage furniture. All of the lucite bases are fully intact and not cracked. The sofa features some small cracks to the fiberglass on the underside. Both table top glasses feature some deterioration to the finishes, but still look wonderful. Overall, a super beautifully preserved set.
