"Barques de Pêche en Guadeloupe" (Fishing Boats in Guadeloupe), 1999
Serigraph on paper
A vibrant and joyful depiction of a seaside fishing village in Guadaloupe, by famed post-impressionist painter Jean-Claude Picot. This watercolor work has been recreated as a serigraph, a labor-intensive multi-layer process that applies heavy pigment, rendering greater depth and bolder, more defined color than a standard lithograph.
This process was adopted by Picot for most of his prints, as he discovered his favorite subjects in the Mediterranean and Caribbean, where colors are vivid and warrant the extra attention needed to bring them to life. Picot was heavily influenced by artist Henry Matisse.
