This vibrant artwork masterfully blends surrealism with abstract expressionism, creating a dynamic visual experience. Set against a fiery red and deep purple backdrop, the central figure—a human-like form—captivates attention with exaggerated, whimsical features. Above, a bicycle suspended in mid-air carries colorful fish, evoking themes of balance and harmony. The backdrop is alive with swirling patterns and scattered eyes, adding a mystic aura. Playful aquatic creatures intersperse the scene, contributing to a sense of movement and wonder. Fine details, vivid colors, and contrasting elements combine to evoke an atmosphere of dreamlike exploration. The piece is signed and dated at the bottom, affirming its authenticity. This artwork's unique interplay of elements and colors invites viewers into a richly imaginative world, challenging perceptions and inspiring curiosity.
Artist:
Polish composer of songs, theater and film music and painter. He graduated from the State Music School and studied at the Faculty of Architecture of the Cracow University of Technology. Beside music, Pawluskiewicz's passion is painting. The artist uses a painting technique, which he calls the gel-art. The artist's works have been exhibited at numerous exhibitions in Poland and abroad, including in Brussels, Italy and Hungary.
Jan Kanty Pawluśkiewicz, a legendary figure in Polish culture, seamlessly transitioned from the world of architecture and grand musical compositions to become the pioneer of an entirely new visual medium: Gel Art. In 1999, driven by a desire to find a more vibrant and multidimensional form of expression, he abandoned traditional oils for specialized, modern gels that allow for an extraordinary play of light and texture. His "gel-graphs" are not merely paintings but intricate, layered structures that possess the rhythmic complexity of a musical score and the spatial discipline of an architectural draft. Each piece is a testament to his "surrealistic-abstract" vision, where intense, saturated colors seem to vibrate with an inner energy, creating a glass-like finish that changes depending on the viewer's perspective. Over the past two decades, Pawluśkiewicz has showcased his innovative technique in dozens of exhibitions across Europe, proving that his artistic curiosity knows no bounds. He describes the act of creating Gel Art as a meditative process of "painting with light," where the chemical properties of the gel allow for a level of detail and luminosity unattainable by any other means. Today, his work stands as a cornerstone of contemporary Polish art, celebrated for its poetic style.
Technique:
The artist created limited edition prints which are further painted and coloured with gel pencils.
