An early 20th-century pen and ink drawing on paper by French painter Pierre Laprade (1875–1931). The composition depicts a statue in the antique style, crowned with foliage and set on a column plinth, surrounded by bushes and grapevines on a trellis, a scene combining classical form with lively nature.
The vertical and horizontal lines of the architecture provide structure, contrasting with the freer, pattern-like rendering of the vines and grapes, which echo the foliage crown of the statue.
A pupil of the sculptor Antoine Bourdelle, Laprade exhibited across Europe and the United States with prominent galleries including Ambroise Vollard and Berthe Weill. Signed lower right. Presented in a gilded frame with green fabric mount. A considered and atmospheric composition, characteristic of Laprade's interest in park scenes. Drawing dimensions: 19 x 14 cm Glazed in a gilded frame and green fabric mount. Signed lower right.
