Executed in stoneware and finished with a smooth salt glaze, the form reflects what Jelfs describes as a pursuit of pure line and proportion. The body rises from a circular base, extending gently before tapering into a slender neck that opens into a subtly splayed lip. The silhouette is unembellished and considered, allowing the volume and curve of the form to define its presence. A single handle arcs cleanly from shoulder to neck, its measured curve reinforcing both balance and function. The celadon green glaze carries soft tonal variations across the surface, pooling slightly around the shoulder and lip, and revealing the quiet movement of the throwing process beneath. Three impressed marks decorate both the front and back of the vessel, adding restrained surface articulation without disturbing the overall simplicity. The base is impressed with “JJ,” confirming John Jelfs as the maker. The jug remains in good condition for age and use, with no chips or damage observed.
