Each brass crane, rendered with elegant lines and a slightly stylized form, is perched upon a turtle—an iconic motif in Japanese decorative arts. In Japanese culture, the crane (tsuru) symbolizes longevity, peace, and fidelity, while the turtle (kame) represents endurance and wisdom. Together, the crane and turtle are a time-honoured emblem of long life and good fortune, seen throughout nihonga painting and Japanese sculpture, particularly from the Edo period onward. Likely produced in Japan during the mid-20th century, these vintage Japanese sculptures are finely cast in bright brass, with smooth contours and subtle texturing that catch the light beautifully. Though nearly identical, each sculpture differs slightly in neck tilt and facial detail—perhaps an intentional reference to wabi-sabi, the Japanese aesthetic of balanced imperfection. Each sculpture measures approximately 22 cm in height, 18 cm in width, and 9 cm in depth. Both are in good vintage condition, showing attractive oxidation and patina to the brass, with surface wear consistent with age and handling. No structural losses or repairs. A refined and symbolic pair, ideal for collectors of Japanese decorative arts, feng shui objects, or mid-century Asian brass sculpture. Their graceful forms and layered cultural meaning make them equally suited for a contemplative interior or curated display. See less
