About the poster:
Ben Shahn, a Lithuanian-born American artist, designed the poster as part of a fundraising effort advocating control of nuclear bomb tests.
Graphics Artists for SANE was organized in 1962 with Shahn included as one of its members.
“The red ‘STOP,’ overprinted on the black mask, acts as a barrier between the viewer and the mask, visually suggesting that the evil can be averted.” Prescott 171, Clash of Ideologies, p.144
