Vintage Italian carved polychrome monkey scholar figure featuring expressive detailing and rich hand painted finishes. The sculpture depicts a seated monkey dressed as a scholar or artist, posed thoughtfully atop a rocky base.
Hand carved from wood and finished with layered polychrome paint, the figure has wonderful character and texture throughout. Pieces like this were often produced in Italy as whimsical decorative objects for libraries, studies, or eclectic interiors.
The underside is marked “Made in Italy.”
