A striking large ceramic fruit bowl produced by the Atelier d’Accolay, France. This sculptural piece features beautifully modeled twisted handles and a richly textured glaze in shades of rose, deep red, and white. The interior displays the distinctive crackled and stippled glaze pattern often associated with Accolay studio production, creating a highly tactile and visually dynamic surface.
Large-scale examples with elaborate handles such as this one are particularly desirable, both for their decorative presence and for the characteristic glaze effects that defined the Accolay aesthetic.
About Accolay
The Accolay pottery workshop was founded in Burgundy, France, in 1945 by André Boutaud, Louis Dangon, Slavik Paley, and Raudé, following their training under ceramist Alexandre Kostanda. Known for bold experimentation, richly textured glazes, and modernist silhouettes, Accolay pieces were widely appreciated for their strong decorative presence and their role in the renewal of French studio pottery after World War II. In its early years, Accolay also produced ceramic jewelry and accessories that were notably used by Christian Dior for his “New Look” collections, before gaining international recognition for its distinctive mid-century studio pottery.
