This abstract work depicts a nude female figure … Read more A 1975 oil on canvas painting by American Artist William Brice (1921-2008). This abstract work depicts a nude female figure stepping forward one a yellow floor. A red wall and a dark green curtain or tapestry is in the background of the painting. Signed "B. 75" to the lower left corner, the painting is displayed in a black and white wooden frame.

William Brice was the son of comedian Fanny Brice and Nicky Arnstein, growing up around highly accomplished creatives, including composer Ira Gershwin and playwright Clifford Odets. As a child, he admired the work of Henri Matisse and Picasso, from whom he purchased a gouache piece at the age of 14.

He studied at the Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles as well as at the Art Students League in New York, and went on to teach at the Jepson Art Institute in Los Angeles and from 1953 to 1991 at the University of California in Los Angeles, becoming an emeritus professor in his final year. To this day, Brice's work can be seen in the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art, the Art Institute of Chicago and the Whitey Museum of American Art. See less
