Having a molded rectangular top, below which are two short drawers and three long drawers, and standing on bracket feet. A well proportioned chest having good color throughout. The drawers open and close smoothly. Antique brass pulls except the two top short drawers which have replaced hardware. Note the dovetail joints on the top edges. In good antique and sturdy condition, recently waxed and polished. What is interesting about this chest is that at some point it was taken apart into two pieces, as seen in the joints on the sides. This was done with furniture back in the 18th century to enable them to be taken up narrow stairs in tight small cottages, then re-assembled. A nice bit of social history. See less
