19th C. Japanese Imari Scalloped Dish - Three-Window Phoenix Design
This exceptional 19th-century Japanese Imari dish is a vibrant example of Kinrande (gold-brocade) style porcelain from the late Edo to early Meiji period. The interior features a sophisticated "Three-Cartouche" composition, with each decorative window framed in bold black lacquer-style borders.
The primary cartouche depicts a majestic Phoenix (Hō-ō) perched amongst Peonies, symbols of high virtue and imperial grace. The secondary windows showcase a serene thatched-roof landscape and a delicate plum blossom branch. The background is a dense tapestry of hand-painted iron-red florals and geometric patterns, heavily accented in 24k gold leaf gilding. The reverse features a trailing floral vine and a prestigious six-character apocryphal Chenghua mark in underglaze blue.

Condition
Excellent Antique Condition. This piece has been remarkably well-preserved. The porcelain is structurally perfect with no chips, cracks, or restorations. The hand-painted enamels are vibrant, and the gold gilding remains bright with only the lightest, age-appropriate surface wear. Minor original kiln artifacts (sand grit) on the unglazed footrim confirm its authentic 19th-century origin.
With its intricate storytelling and museum-quality preservation, this authentic Imari dish is a quintessential piece for the discerning collector of Japanese porcelain.
