Chinese famille rose porcelain plate for export to India, circa 1760.
Decorated with a central figure of a mahout riding his elephant between flowers and rockwork. Dense floral ground enameled in bianco sopra bianco with flowers around the scalloped rim. Measures 9 1/4" in diameter. Good condition - minor rim frits. A similar plate sold Christies London - see last photo.
Exotic export such as this example were enjoyed by British colonials living in India during the Raj. A small platter from this service is in the Daniel and Serga Nadler Collection at Winterthur.
