A splendid sculpture that pays homage to the noble art of blacksmithing and manual labor. This early 20th-century sculpture, an ideal companion in style and workmanship to the "Miner," depicts a blacksmith captured in the act of creating.
Subject and Style: The work, titled "Forgeron - Par Ruchet" (The Blacksmith) as indicated on the front plate, depicts a proud male figure in work attire, holding a heavy hammer in his left hand and lifting a newly crafted object in his right. Behind him is the anvil, an iconic symbol of the trade. The title is also embossed on the metal base.
Material and Finish: The statue is crafted of antimony, with a lustrous gold-plated finish applied later to preserve the metal and give it a uniform aesthetic. The figure rests on a rock base that rests on a solid turned wooden pedestal, featuring a reddish finish that mimics the grain of marble.
