A substantial Belgian ceramic jug vase dating from the 1970s, characterised by its low, generous proportions and richly worked surface.
The body is broadly rounded with a flattened shoulder, rising to a short, slightly flared neck with a shaped pouring lip and a single loop handle to the rear. The silhouette is grounded and architectural, giving the piece a strong sculptural presence even when unfilled.
The surface is decorated with incised and relief ornament, including a band of stylised floral motifs around the shoulder and a textured, lattice-like frieze encircling the midsection. These decorative elements are enhanced by a layered glaze in deep bronze, olive and umber tones, with darker recessed detailing that emphasises the pattern. The glaze has a softly metallic quality, typical of expressive 1970s studio and Belgian decorative ceramics.
The lower section is finished in a darker, more uniform brown, providing visual weight and contrast to the more intricate upper register. Both functional and decorative, the jug works equally well as a standalone sculptural object or as a vessel for branches, lending a distinctly mid-century European character to an interior.
