This exquisite vintage Russian lacquer box is a premier example of the Kholuy (Холуй) school of miniature painting. Hand-crafted from traditional papier-mâché, the lid features a vibrant, masterfully executed "Troika" scene—a classic Russian winter image of three horses pulling a sleigh through a blizzard.

The piece is hand-signed in gold leaf by the artist Lovkachev (Ловкачев) and marked with the village of origin, п. Холуй. The artist utilizes a delicate stippling technique to create the atmospheric, snow-filled sky, a hallmark of high-quality Kholuy artistry. The box opens to a stunning, traditional bright red lacquer interior and is finished with an intricate gold-leaf filigree border around the lid.

Very Good Vintage Condition. The central miniature painting is remarkably well-preserved with vibrant colors and no paint loss. The internal red lacquer is high-gloss and clean. The exterior black lacquer shows light "honest" vintage wear, including fine surface scuffs and minor "dustiness" consistent with age and careful handling. No structural cracks, chips to the core, or warping.
