A grand and highly decorative Victorian "humpback" steamer trunk, circa 1880–1900. Standing at an impressive 25 1/2 inches, this piece is a premier example of Gilded Age travel, featuring rare embossed tin panels in an intricate scrolling floral motif. The trunk is reinforced with heavy wooden slats and exceptionally ornate cast-metal "fleur-de-lis" slat clamps. Most notably, the trunk retains an original vintage "Pony Express" shipping label from Wichita, Kansas, providing a rare and soulful glimpse into its 19th-century travels.

Original "Pony Express" label is partially intact and legible on the front. The interior retains a rare portion of its original Victorian lithograph paper lining.
