At a sprawling 29 inches wide and 11 inches deep, this oversized nomadic harvest vessel is a truly spectacular artifact of everyday tribal life. Baskets of this monumental scale were the heavy lifters of the agrarian home. Crafted to withstand the rigors of the harvest season, a vessel this large would have been essential for winnowing massive quantities of grain, sorting heavy crop yields, or safely storing communal food supplies. Woven entirely by hand from locally sourced natural grasses and reeds, this bowl features beautifully tight coiling and a completely raw, unadorned rim that highlights the organic fraying of the natural fibers. When you flip this massive piece over, you are greeted by a striking, thick patch of original earthen mud sealing. The heavily cracked, sun-baked clay is a brilliant historic technique used to waterproof the base against damp soil and prevent precious seeds from escaping the weave. Because of its impressive 29-inch diameter, this vessel commands attention and is incredibly versatile for floor styling. It makes a breathtaking, organic drop-zone beside a fireplace for holding kindling or rolled throw blankets. If you have a large enough dining table or a sprawling kitchen island, it also serves as a phenomenally textured wabi-sabi centerpiece that perfectly grounds modern or Japandi interiors.
