At an impressive 25 inches wide, this deep nomadic harvest bowl is a remarkable piece of utilitarian history. In traditional tribal and agrarian societies, large, sturdy baskets of this scale were the heavy lifters of the home. They were relied upon constantly for transporting hefty crop yields, winnowing grains, or storing essential communal food supplies. Woven entirely by hand from thick, natural grasses and reeds, this piece has developed a beautiful, dark patina on the interior from decades of heavy use. What makes this basket truly unique is how the artisan chose to protect the bottom. Instead of traditional mud sealing, a large, durable square of woven textile has been resourcefully stitched directly over the exterior base to reinforce it against damp ground and constant friction. The rim was left beautifully raw and natural.
Measuring a substantial 25 inches across and 11 inches deep, this piece is a highly functional statement piece. It works beautifully as an oversized, textural centerpiece on a large dining table, or resting on the floor beside a sofa to hold rolled throw blankets. Its earthy tones and raw, wabi-sabi character make it a seamless addition to Japandi, rustic, or globally curated interiors.
