• This Whirling Dervish miniature painting depicts the Mevievi Order, a 13th-century Sufi Islamic tradition (founded on Rumi's teachings) famous for the Sema, a mesmerizing meditation ceremony where "whirling dervishes" spin in white robes to achieve divine unity. Based in Turkey (Konya/Istanbul), this ritual symbolizes the soul's release from earthly ties, the abandonment of ego, and the planets orbiting the sun.
• This painting features vibrant colors for the face and beard, sikke, shash, hands, ankles, shoes and folds of the tenure
• The tenure is shaped by a few intricate lines

Obtained 25 years ago in Istanbul’s Grand Bazaar; Circa 19th/20th century.

Handwritten Arabic text under the matting, about the art translates to:
And neither your grandfather nor God is other than you, and the fourth is seeking refuge, he says after the praise, seek refuse from Satan, the evil of them, that praise and seeking refuge are recited by the Imam and the one praying.
