This hand-chased brass tray was likely produced in Northern India—possibly Kashmir or Jaipur—for export to the British colonial market during the British Raj around the turn of the 20th century. The tray features intricate Islimi floral vine engraving, a Persian-influenced decorative motif widely associated with Kashmiri metal craftsmanship.

The surface is richly engraved and retains traces of traditional polychrome lac-fill pigment in red and cream tones over a faint green ground. Its distinctive scalloped octagonal silhouette and finely chased border create a refined decorative presence.

Originally designed as a tobacciana service or calling-card tray, the piece includes two shallow repoussé wells and a central square recess. Today it functions beautifully as a decorative accent tray, desk accessory, or tabletop object in traditional, colonial, or globally inspired interiors.
