Commissioned by Mobilier National for the French pavilion at the 1967 World's Fair

Olivier Mourgue's collaboration with Mobilier National dates back to the 1967 World's Fair in Montreal, for which he created a set of chairs and tables to furnish the French pavilion's reception room. The contract (9 May 1967) specified that the designer had to provide a project including full-scale plans, a report on materials and upholstery, and a study of the overall décor of the lounge. The prototypes designed and produced by ARC based on Mourgue's drawings resulted in a first edition of thirty armchairs, ten footstools and six coffee tables bearing the ‘Mobilier national’ label, produced by Airborne. The internal structure of the seats, made of moulded polyester, forms a shell that is padded with foam and covered with a fully removable red jersey cover.
