This sculptural earthenware vase embodies the refined yet slightly rustic character that defines Upsala Ekeby ceramics of the late 1930s and early 1940s. The form is beautifully balanced, with a rounded, softly swelling body rising to a gently flared cylindrical neck. Two symmetrically applied loop handles curve outward from the shoulder, adding both architectural structure and visual rhythm to the silhouette. The glaze on this example is a warm creamy beige-white with subtle tonal variations that enhance the organic quality of the clay body. The handles are finished in a contrasting orange-red glaze, creating a bold and distinctly Art Deco color accent. Upsala Ekeby “Vase 94” was handcrafted and produced in a range of glaze colors, making each piece subtly unique.
