These mid-century (c. 1950s) reproductions of the classic M.I Hummel "Bookworm" design, likely manufactured by Goldcastle or similar high quality Japanese porcelain maker of the era. The girl is reading "Little Red Riding Hood" while the boy sits cross-legged with his own volume. Both are hand printed featuring a soft, multi-color palette with a glossy finish typical of mid-century Japanese ceramics. While designed as bookends, their flat-back design also makes them excellent "Shelf Sitters" for a nursery, library, or vintage themed room. See less
