This French 19th-century painted and giltwood overmantel mirror is conceived in a refined Neoclassical, Louis XVI Revival idiom, combining crisp architectural geometry with delicate, low-relief ornament. The tall rectangular plate is framed by a wide, parcel-gilt surround articulated with beaded and fluted moldings, the whole crowned by an arched frieze painted in a soft celadon/verdigris tone and enriched with gilded relief scrolls, foliate sprays, and a central tied bouquet emerging beneath the arch. The ornament reads as stylized laurel and acanthus, arranged with the symmetry and restraint associated with late 18th-century French decorative vocabulary, while the scale and overmantel format suggest later 19th-century historicism intended for salon or dining room installation above a cheminée. The verso retains an original Christie’s auction label.
