This vintage Chinese ikebana bowl was produced in the Shiwan tradition, known for expressive, sculptural pottery forms inspired by natural rock and scholar’s objects.
Measuring approximately 6 inches in diameter, the bowl is modeled in a rugged, rock-like profile with layered contours and variegated glaze tones characteristic of Shiwan art pottery. Such forms were favored for bonsai and ikebana arrangements, where the vessel functions as both container and landscape element.
The piece is unmarked, consistent with many Shiwan studio works made for the export and decorative market during the mid-20th century. Its compact scale and strong sculptural presence make it suitable for bonsai display, ikebana use, or as a standalone object.
