The lower half remains unglazed, as was traditional for preserving meats in cool cellars. While most confit pots were made in smaller, utilitarian sizes for daily use, examples at this scale are exceptionally rare. Its generous form, timeworn patina, and warm coloration make it a coveted piece of 19th-century French pottery-striking both as a collectible and as a statement in the home. See less
