Hand-thrown studio pottery vase by master North Carolina potter Ben Owen III, dated 1993.
This sculptural form is finished in a rich glaze with subtle speckling and beautiful tonal variation from crimson to deep wine. The glaze pools naturally around the shoulder and opening, highlighting the elegant shape.
Signed and dated on the base.
Ben Owen is part of the Seagrove, North Carolina pottery tradition, one of the longest continuous pottery communities in the United States. His work is collected for its blend of traditional craftsmanship and modern form.
