This elegant side table was created around 1890, drawing on Baroque design elements, particularly the characteristic twisted columns. The clearly defined, hexagonal top and the prominent cross base give the piece a stylish, vertically accentuated proportion.
Historical Context: Side tables of this type were frequently produced around the turn of the century as flexible complementary furniture and consciously employed historicist forms. Twisted columns, as seen here, reference 17th-century Baroque models and represented craftsmanship as well as a decorative presence in the living space. Such tables were used in parlors, side rooms, or as pedestals for vases, candlesticks, or small sculptures.
Features: Six twisted solid columns with a continuous connection to the central cross base; hexagonal tabletop with a slightly projecting edge. Design: The table's form is inspired by the Baroque style without adopting its opulent ornamentation. The twisted columns create a rhythmic vertical structure, while the star-shaped cross base visibly stabilizes the construction and clearly defines the proportions. Function: Formerly used as a movable side table or display surface for decorative objects. Today, it can be used as a side table, pedestal, or standalone piece of furniture in various room settings.
Dimensions in cm: Height 68 × Width 50 × Depth 44. Material and condition: Solid oak, good condition commensurate with age, with visible patina and signs of wear, stable and sturdy.
