ComoleraThis listing is for a pair of 19 th century bronze patina, spelter, bird trophy sculptures mounted on oval wood plaques signed by Paul Comolera. They measure 18 by 13 ½ inches or 47 by 34.2 cm, at the back of the plaques. The bronze bird figures have excellent attention to detail throughout, and their original dark brown patina or color, and they are mounted to a hand carved oval wood plaques.The wood plaques are signed in red "P. COMOLERA", this for Paul Comolera (1818-1897) who is a French sculptor. He completed his studies of sculpture at the Rue d'Enfer. Comolera debuted at the Paris Salon in 1846, where he exhibited regularly until his death. Known for his realistic sculptures of farm animals and birds, Comolera is included in the elite school of French Animalier sculptors. His birds were naturalistic, lacking the romantic style of his famous student Jules Moigniez. His sculptures are most detailed and anatomically accurate.The condition is as follows; there are some variations to the finish on the wood and one as a small chip on the edge, the bronzes are in good condition, one has a small chip on the tip of the wing.
