The ceramist siegfried gramann (1924-1992) had been head of pottery making there since 1958.

a beautiful cone-shaped vessel, showing a complex speckled glaze in hues of white and grey to black, reminiscent of lunar craters. The vase is signed on the underside.

the römhild company is family-owned since 1720. It was nationalized as 'veb töpferhof römhild' under the gdr regime but was returned to the family in the 1990s. During gdr times the company became the biggest hand pottery in europe.

the company's ceramics studio was the heart from which new innovations in form and color constantly emerged. Artistic highlights were the international ceramics symposia initiated by siegfried gramann. This piece has an attribution mark,
